Product Description
Product Description
Misto has been used for years by home cooks who like to control the amount of oil they use. The sprayer is designed with the health-conscious cook in mind and is perfect for low fat/high flavor cooking, grilling, sautéing, roasting and basting. Misto is ideal for spraying olive oil on salads, pasta, veggies, breads, pizza, chicken, beef and fish. Buy one for each of your favorite oils; Great for vegetable, olive, canola and more. Refill and reuse again and again; Environmental friendly; The non-aerosol sprayer doesn't use chemical propellants, and it's refillable, so no more throwing cans away to end up in landfills. MISTO is BPA-free. Please note, threading the cap on incorrectly allows air to escape and in turn does not allow the bottle to build up pressure to spray.

For spreading olive oil evenly on bruschetta, focaccia, and grilled or roasted vegetables, and for spraying muffin and cake pans with vegetable oil, this dispenser is a nifty tool. A plastic cap underneath the sprayer's top twists off so the sprayer can be half-filled (1/3 cup) with oil. Inside the top is a plastic tube that fits over the spray nozzle. Push the top up and down to pump air pressure into the canister. Then spray for 10 seconds and pump up again. It's simple, ingenious, and practical. With its cap on, the sprayer stands just 7-5/8 inches high, so it tucks away easily on any countertop. Made of satin-finish aluminum with a black-band accent, it's sleek as well as utilitarian. --Fred Brack

What did I seek in a sprayer: something to supplant commercially available sprays, e.g. Pam, and, therefore, reduce my costs and the ingestion/inhalation of propellants and whatever else is in the can. What did I receive: exactly what I wanted.
Many of the negative reviews cite two issues: poor quality/quantity of sprayed oil or little, or no spray at all. By way of anticipation I addressed these issues as follows:
Regarding poor spraying: before filling the sprayer, remove the pump assembly and note that there is a rubber washer under the plastic disc that seals against the sprayer can. Remove the washer and put a light coating of oil on each side. Why? To effect a better seal between the washer and the components in face of any irregularities of the surfaces. This practice is accomplished in many instances in the garage, e.g., by applying oil to the surface of its rubber gasket before seating oil filters, and in the house, e.g., by applying vaseline to the o-rings of water and whole-house filters. Vaseline (Crisco if you are concerned) could be used in lieu of oil on the Misto if an oil film does not work. This practice should also preclude the necessity of screwing down the pump assembly so tightly (to effect a seal) as to cause breakage.
Regarding too brief a spraying time: the directions with the sprayer state that the can should be filled with no more than 3 oz. of oil to achieve a can that is half filled. Why? It is compressed air that produces the spray. Since liquids cannot be compressed (think hydraulics), if you overfill the can there will be little air-volume room, regardless of the pressure. In other words, you can pump up the can as much as you like but all you will achieve is high pressure low volume - ending up with an aerosol that lasts a few seconds. I put about 2 oz. in the can and pump it up until I feel adequate resistance. How much is adequate: trial and error depending on how much oil is in the can and how small an oil droplet you require. By so doing, I avoid creating a high pressure aerosol and have a sufficient volume of air to allow me to spray what I need. Regarding the quality of spray: the method I use produces tiny droplets of oil with which I am happy, i.e, adequate for coating a frypan or baking dish, salad, bread, pie, or pastry crust, etc. In a word, I do not require a fine spray - although that can be achieved.
It seems that the predominating issue with the Misto is clogging of the nozzle. Surprisingly, the solution to that issue was suggested by John Dunson, in 2010, in the comments associated with the review by L.A. Kane, but apparently ignored (or not read) by users, to wit: after using the sprayer, invert it, depress the nozzle, and allow the compressed air to blow out the remaining oil from the delivery system; then, if desired, unscrew the cap to release the remaining air. I have seen this very common practice printed on the directions of every can of spray paint I have ever used. And it works! I dispense cooking oils from cruets and it is convenient to invert the Misto over the mouth of the cruet and spray the remaining oil from the delivery system back into the cruet.
As a consequence of these practices, I have never had any issues with the Misto. And do note, the Misto has a limited lifetime guarantee and, although Lifetime Brands, Inc. asks that the item be returned at the user's expense for replacement, I suspect that a call to customer service regarding a clogged nozzle would result in the immediate mailing of a replacement nozzle.
Hope these suggestions prove helpful,
Ed
Or you want to be more holistic and healthy...
.
YOU NEED THIS
.
ISSUE
Some ppl say it sprays a stream... They overfilled the bottle and/or the oil they are using is coagulating in the nozzle.
SOLUTION
It says to only fill the bottle half way... read the directions people!
HALF is MAX
I usually have it 1/4 to 1/2 full. You're not glugging oil on a pan, you're spritzing it.
Trust me having it only 1/4 full it'll still work well for a couple weeks of cooking.
.
People don't look at the ingredients of their kitchen stuff enough.
.
Even the cooking sprays are notorious for having additives.
Soy for example is one thing added and other things to help keep the spray thin.
.
These are things you'll consume which isn't cool. PLUS those additives are what discolor your beautiful pots.
My Cuisinart Stainless Steel triple clad pan is one of the most gorgeous things I own.
The LAST thing I want is to discolor it with oil gunk and have to scrub it with barkeepers friend. (which I still do monthly to keep it sparkling but still!)
.
Using this oil spray ensure you will not have any extra junk in your oil, or in your cooking, or in your body or your family's body or friends you cook for!
.
So far, I've used it with grapeseed oil and avocado oil. I assume it would work with olive oil.
Coconut oil would be too thin, unless you wanted to do something like warm it on a warm stovetop or something.
But really I'd avoid it.
.
I have had it stream and not spray before. I found that either I had to pump it more, it was too full, it was almost empty, or the nozzle was a little clogged....
If the nozzle is clogged, run it under hot water for 5-10 seconds and it should be perfect again.
.
Really this should be in everybody's kitchen. It even look skinda cool!
I like the construction too, the bottle is aluminum and sturdy and the screw on top is made out of stone. They did this I can only assume, because the harder stone threads don't leak as much as plastic ones would have.
.
So they care about how well their product works! You know they could have gone with a cheaper screw on cap but this quality is way better!

Es importante llenar de aceite la mitad del recipiente y comprimirlo bien depués.
Funciona bien y la difusión del aceite es parecida a la de los sprays comerciales.
